Harry Potter Movies in Order (and Fantastic Beasts)
The Harry Potter series is one story in eight films, released in the order the books were written — so release order and story order are the same thing. The only question is where the Fantastic Beasts prequel trilogy belongs.
The Harry Potter films
- Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) — Titled Sorcerer's Stone in the US.
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) — Alfonso Cuarón's entry; the series grows up.
- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010)
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011) — The finale.
Where do the Fantastic Beasts films fit?
- Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) — Set in 1926, decades before Harry.
- Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)
- Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
Chronologically the Fantastic Beasts films come first, but they lean heavily on references that only pay off if you already know the Potter films — Dumbledore above all. Watch the eight Potter films first, then the prequels. In most countries the whole series sits on one or two services, but the split varies a lot by region — search any of the films on this site to see where the series streams where you live.
