Spider-Man Movies in Order: Every Era Explained
There have been four distinct Spider-Man film eras in just over two decades, and thanks to the multiverse they eventually collide. Each era stands alone, so — as with Batman — you watch by era, and the order between eras barely matters until you reach No Way Home.
The Raimi trilogy (2002–2007)
- Spider-Man (2002) — Tobey Maguire; the film that launched the modern superhero boom.
- Spider-Man 2 (2004) — Still one of the best superhero films ever made.
- Spider-Man 3 (2007)
The Amazing era (2012–2014)
- The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) — Andrew Garfield's reboot.
- The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)
The MCU era (2017– )
- Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) — Tom Holland, introduced earlier in Captain America: Civil War.
- Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
- Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) — The multiverse event — lands hardest if you know all three eras.
The Spider-Verse (animated, 2018– )
- Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) — Miles Morales; an Oscar winner and arguably the best Spider-Man film, period.
- Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) — Ends on a cliffhanger — be warned.
Recommended path
Watch the Raimi trilogy, then the MCU trilogy, and save No Way Home until you've at least seen the earlier eras — its biggest moments depend on them. The Amazing films are optional but add weight to No Way Home too. The Spider-Verse films can be watched any time, independently of everything else. Rights to the different eras are often split between services — Sony licenses them widely — so search each film on this site to see where each era streams in your country.
