Where does The Animatrix fit?
The Animatrix (2003) is a collection of nine animated shorts. Most expand the world rather than the plot, but two of them — Final Flight of the Osiris and the two-part Second Renaissance — connect directly to Reloaded and the backstory of the machine war. The ideal slot is after the first film and before Reloaded. It is optional, but the Second Renaissance segments genuinely deepen everything that follows.
